Monday's Musings

Good Monday All--

Hope everyone had a good, restful weekend. Did you read some good books last week? If so, what were they?

I'm in the midst of several things today. Our fridge went out last night around 11:00 and we had to empty it out. So thankful we kept our old fridge in the basement. When we got up this morning. the fridge temperature was 93! Thought about cooking breakfast in it!

But it's all fixed and our little fridge drama is over. Today, I'm working on synopses, ordering 'autograph by author' stickers and trying to come up with something snappy and original for new bookmarks for the new trilogy.

So that's my Monday. What's going on in your world? And what can you recommend as a good read for this week?

  1. Happy Monday and Martin Luther King Day! Hope some of you are enjoying a holiday from work today and might get an CHANCE to read a good book!

I'm overdosing on historical romances! So, I'm mixing it up this week with Laura Kinsdale's historical, "Lessons In French" and Shannon K. Butcher's romantic suspense, "Love You to Death." I've truly got to find some romantic suspenses to read because I'm beginning to feel withdrawal symptoms. Historical romances are great BUT I've never read this many for so long a period of time. I desperately need some "CHANCEs" to get myself upright again!!! I don't know if I can make it until February 23.
    HELP!!!!

Gotta go get some things bagged up for the Salvation Army truck scheduled for a pickup tomorrow morning in my neighborhood!

    Have a good day everyone!

  2. Did I beat Jackie? *looking around*

    Hey Christy *waves*
I am reading Bitten by Cupid or trying to !!!!

Been so busy this last week I have not had the CHANCE to read much!

  3. Ida, ya beat me. Phone is ringing off the hook this morning. Reading Susan Sizemore's Master of Darkness. Finally finshed To Hot To Hold. Good Book.

  4. Hey Oklanannie, speaking of strictly romantic suspense, have you read Lauren Bach? She had several romantic suspense come out a few years ago, then started writing under another name. I haven't read her new ones yet, but the Lauren Bach romantic suspense were excellent. You might give those a try if you haven't already.

Also, just in case, have you read my favs of these authors:

    PAMELA CLARE (Unlawful Contact)
    KAREN ROSE (I'm Watching You)
    SANDRA BROWN (Play Dirty)

  5. Hi everyone,
Would have been here sooner, but I HAD to finish the book I started last night. I put everything aside, even threatened to make the kids clean the house if they didn't let me finish! (That worked wonders by the way.) lol
Anyway, the book is Susan Crandall's Sleep No More and for you romantic suspense fans (you know who you are), I think you'll love it. Loved her writing and her characters were so real!
Also re-read Run to Me. Maybe some of you have heard of it. Honestly, Christy, everytime I think I've picked a favorite book or character of yours, I find something to love about another one. The only downside to rereading Run to Me was that it made me that much more anxious for 2/23!
Glad your fridge issues are resolved. After the past few months we've had, we've joked that the fridge was the only thing around here that HASN'T gone out.
Ok, must get to work, let the boys out of their rooms, act responsibly, etc, etc, etc.

  6. Waving back at ya, Ida!

You guys are doing so well with the CHANCE theme!

Hope you get a CHANCE to read more soon!

  7. Hey Jackie, glad you finished Too Hot to Hold. Now you'll be ready for the new one out in a couple of weeks!

Enjoy Master of Darkness. Sounds sexy and, well, dark. (:

  8. Refrigerators, hmmm. A couple of years ago, my husband & I were going to be all alone. No children. So I think ahhh romantic picnic. Stopped in the gourmet market bought all the expensive food you don't normally eat when you have 3 kids and a bottle of Wine (Even though I don't normally drink. Come home, and started putting it away when I get a whiff of a smell. One that I know but can't remember. Looking around it then hits me " BURNT ELECTRICAL" smell! The compressor was dying and it was 30 minutes till Sears closes! And me with the little truck. Worked it out and get new frig home, it won't fit under the overhead cabinets! Spent rest of night sipping said wine and nibbling on gourmet food alone while my sweet hubby moved cabinets and fit the frig in.

  9. OK, so I'll be responsible in a minute, but first I have to say, I love Lauren Bach! Pure Dynamite was great. I may have to pull that out of the closet for a re read!
Has anyone read anything by Michelle Perry? Great, great stuff. She hasn't written anything in a few years that I know of - wondering if she is writing under another name as well. I would really recommend Paint it Black to Romantic Suspense fans. That is a fabulous book. Ok, NOW I have to get to work. :)

  10. Aw, Kara, music to an author's ears. Thanks for reading RUN TO ME again!

I need to add Susan Crandall to my list. She has several romantic suspense out now. Need to get started on some. Thanks for the recommend!

  11. Just Finished "The Lock Artist" by Steve Hamilton.
Currently Reading "No Mercy" by Lori Armstrong and "Faces of the Gone" by Brad Parks.

Sorry to hear about the fridge.
There's bad karma in the air today. My phone died right after I sent an email to our local library and explained that the events calander is about as much fun as a stomach ache.
At least you don't have to cook and I don't have to ignore the ringing telephone.

  12. Oh Jackie, too funny. That sounds like a romantic adventure I would plan and exactly what would happen to me. At least you had wine to ease the frustration. (:

  13. OOOOppp my titles are in wrong genre. Karen Rose "Kill For Me" was really good.

  14. Ewww on the fridge! At least you noticed it. I can only imagine how messy that would have been!

The kids are off from school today so I am hanging out with them! But I am also starting to make all of the treats that I am bringing into DH's work on Friday! He has a new position within his company so although he is not leaving, he is technically leaving his current staff!

So I have made chocolate covered Oreos, Pretzel Turtles and am working on the Buckeyes. Still have lots to do and keeping the 5 year old from telling him about all of it is going to be a challenge! Oh and did I mention this is all for his staff! He doesn't eat any of it so I am bringing him a huge platter of broccoli, his favorite :p

I love Pamela Clare and Karen Rose! Although I wish I didn't know about Karen so I could read her fresh all over again!

OK off to clean up so I can run and get the 7 year old's friend!

    Have a fantastic day everyone!

    Aly

  15. Hey Kelly, we love all books here, so recommend any and all!

Hope your phone gets fixed soon!

Appliances, got to love them. My oven (same brand as my fridge) has been acting up. Since he's here, repairman takes a look at it too. The little demon won't act up! Now I have to wait until it does before I can call repairman back. Not sure these things don't have minds of their own sometimes.

  16. Aly, seriously. A plate of broccoli? I'm in awe.

You are one busy lady! A 5 and 7 year old and your making all sorts of treats. Wow. Thanks for stopping by. And if you get a CHANCE, tell me (us) what buckeyes are. Okay?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have managed to find a CHANCE to hop back on!

LOL! I am not busy...I am insane :) I can't imagine what life is going to be like when I have a job again!

Yes, a plate of broccoli! The man drives me crazy with his disgustingly good eating habits! He really has never been a sweets person and really can't stand cake! GASP! I know ;)

Buckeyes are just chocolate covered peanut butter balls! And right now the peanut butter mixture and I are not friends!

And Christy since you are kind of close, when are you going to get a CHANCE to visit Atlanta? :P

    Aly

    ReplyDelete
  18. Aly, I didn't know they were called buckeyes. I like that name better than what I've called them all my life, which is, chocolate covered peanut butter balls. Buckeyes sounds so much more succinct!

And I really hope to do some traveling this year. Atlanta is only two hours away from me. I might just plan a road trip in the not too distant future. That is after I finish these synopses, which can sometimes be even more difficult than writing the book!

I'll be sure to let the Georgia crowd know if I'm coming that way.

  19. Kara C and Christy - I, too, loved Lauren Bach's books. I'm so surprised to learn she's writing under a new name after often wondering where she had gone. I checked her Cate Noble website and have added her new books to my wishlist. Also, am adding Susan Crandall's "Sleep No More". I'm off to the bookstore to do some damage and get back on the romantic suspense track. Thanks for the good suggestions!

Aly - you're making me hungry with all that talk of pretzel turtles (one of my favorites - love the salt & sugar combination!) and Buckeyes! Congrats to your hubby on the promotion and his good eating habits!

  20. Ooh, I love Lauren Bach. It me a while to find out that she writing under a new name, Cate Noble. I still love her writing and am looking forward to her next release.

  21. Hello,

This blog is so helpful. I also was a fan of Lauren Bach's books, but I had no idea until today that she is writing under the Cate Noble pen name. I already have her upcoming book (Deadly Seduction) on my list.

I have not started a new book after finishing Renegade by Catherine Mann. It's probably because one of my favorite shows, 24, is back.

  22. *pops in* HI EVERYONE! Just stopped by to see how everyone was!!!!! *pops out*

  23. Jennifer,
I read Renegade last week. I think it may be my favorite of that series.
And you are the second person to tell me how great 24 is. I CANNOT get addicted to another tv show, and I know I will if I watch it. (Used to have quite the crush on Kiefer Sutherland) :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yay, Oklanannie! Hope you enjoyed your bookstore trip today!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey, Jane. I have one that she wrote under Cate Noble but haven't had a CHANCE to read it. So many wonderful books out there I need and want to read!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jennifer, yay! I'm so glad we were helpful. Love to recommend and get recommendations!

And I am a 24 fanatic! Between it and Criminal Minds, I may have some major writing constraints. Last night was awesome and tonight it continues. Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Come on, Kara. You know you want to. If you loved Keifer before, you'll swoon watching him as Jack Bauer! He's awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh good grief, you are such a bad influence, Christy! :) I'll just have to watch it now. I guess there's NO CHANCE A&E shows 24 reruns, huh? I'd like a SECOND CHANCE to watch the show, but was last night the LAST CHANCE for this week? (When will we know those new titles? LOL)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kara, watch it tonight and you should be able to catch up fast. It doesn't repeat because it's done in real time. And I rarely see it as reruns either. So frustrating, but so worth watching. I promise!

  30. Hi girls
I totally missed you guys today. Busy at work & home. Reading & watching a bit of tennis. No recs this week.

  31. Kara C -

I hope you watched 24 last night - it was a good episode. I have been a Kiefer Sutherland fan for a long time and he is the best as Jack Bauer!

  32. Jennifer, I so agree. Jack is awesome!
