How was your weekend? Do anything fun? Read anything wonderful? Did you stay cool? This heat is unbelievable, isn't it?
Last week was a busy one for me. I did more shopping than I planned to get ready for the RWA conference. In between shopping, I wrote several pages on SWEET JUSTICE (have I mentioned I'm loving Seth and Honor together?) and read a book. Yes, I do have a recommend! I read Sandra Brown's Envy. That was a recommended read from some of you here and it was wonderful. Lots of twists, turns and surprises. Love those kinds of books!
As many of you know, I'm headed to Orlando for the RWA conference. If you're attending, I hope to meet you and if you're at the Wednesday evening literacy signing, please stop by and say hi. I plan on having chocolate!
So what great books did you read last week that you're dying to recommend? Any new to you authors you're trying? Any soon to be released books you're looking forward to? Share the love with us!
I will have email this week, so feel free to drop me a line. May take me a day or two to get back to you, but I will reply as quickly as possible.
Hope you all have a wonderful week. Stay cool and read some great books!
I was on "vacation" last week for my daughter's dance competition. Turned out to be a stressful week.
ReplyDeleteI think I posted that I had started reading Erin McCarthy's Hard and Fast. It took me all week to finish it!! It was a good book though; I'm enjoying the series.
On the train ride to work this morning (ugh! going back to work after vaca is awful!!), I started reading Last Gasp by Carla Cassidy. I'm not that far in, but so far I'm hooked.
Still reading Julia Quinn but those 2 books I mentioned last week. Well I got to them and they are RECOMMENDS! Robyn Kayes' "Breakfast in Bed" and Shiloh Walker's "Broken" all previous recommends that turned out great. So glad that two of my friends are going to the RWA conference in Orlando. I hope they have a Blast!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Ladies -
ReplyDeleteThis week was fair week here for us and my husband is an FFA advisor so I was hanging out with pggies and cows for most of the week and didn't get as much reading done as I would normally.
I started the SEAL series by Mary Margret Daughtridge, finished SEALed with a Kiss and on to SEALed with a promise. I really like the action of military romance books, but these are NOT action, but still good. They are basically about the SEAL not including any SEAL type stuff.
I finished one that was on my pile to read too. Joanne Ross' Breakpoint. That was a really good series. I was new to Joanne when I started but I would highly recommend that series.
I am looking forward to Cindy Gerrard's anthology DEADLY PROMISES out in October. Although, sometimes I really don't like the anthology's because you get one or 2 good stories out of them with authors you know and a few authors you don't know and never want to read again. But I will risk it for Cindy, I love her.
Have fun in Orlando Christy. It is hot and sticky down there (my hometown is less than an hour from Mickey's house).
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Hot Finish by Erin McCarthy (which is the book after Hard & Fast). This is Suz and Ryder's story - I've been waiting for this book for a while and I was not disappointed. My only complaint was that I thought it could have been a little longer. :-) I do recommend the book to fans of the series. After that, I'm a couple chapters into Shadows at Midnight by Elizabeth Jennings, which I'm liking so far!! Hope everyone has a great week.
Saturday I was off so my husband and i cleared the garage as I am making some changes to my shop. I am closing the book shop and am keeping the online shop. Transferring my stock of used books home from where i will keep the business up part time - fingers crossed sales will keep up. In the mornings, from September I will have a job as marketing manager of my family's Hospital group. So lots of changes and challenges ahead for me.
ReplyDeleteI was in a historical romance mood lately but nothing was working for me. Until I started Rose Lerner's In For a Pound - I loved it. Now I am reading Erica Ridley's Too Wicked To Kiss and i am enjoying it a lot too - its a gothic historical romance.
I have Jennifer Ashley's Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage (I loved the first book in this series) and Elizabeth Hoyt's Wicked Intentions in mmy piles and looking forward to reading them. Am also waiting for Eloisa james' A Kiss At Midnight and Erin MCCarthy's Hot Finish.
Have a great time at the RWA!
Jennifer I am so glad you liked Hot Finish. I love love Erin McCarthy. Read all her contemps and she hasn't disappointed me. They are an auto buy. The paranormals can be a bit slow but the contemps are steamy and fun.
Hellllooooo!!
ReplyDelete:-)
I am only about 150 pages into Unspeakable. My vacation was so fun I didn't get a chance to read hardly anything. I kept bringing the book to the pool or beach with me but I don't think it ever made it out of my bag. Now I'm going to try to speed read before I have to return everything to the library next week. Maybe I should have my 6 year old put in a request for the books so I can recheck them out that way. and they won't go back to the other branches. Hmmm...diabolical planning....
I'm so jealous I won't be in Orlando.
Hello everyone!
ReplyDeleteI worked out all week, then on the weekend decided to give my dog a bath. I pulled out the big metal tub filled it with soapy water then proceeded to take a 'swim' in it with him! LOL
I did find time during the week to go to the library; where previously, I had seen several Stephanie Tyler books....all were gone!
Since Dee Davis has been recommended so many times, I picked up 'EndGame' and 'Enigma'.
I also picked up a book by Elizabeth Adler 'In A Heartbeat'...not sure about her, have never read her books and another unknown to me; Sharie Kohler, 'Marked by Moonlight'.
Meanwhile my dog mocks me by getting up to run around and roll in the dirt every time I walk outside. :)
Christy I forgot to comment about Envy - Sandra Brown is not always a hit with me. I have started two or three books of hers and put them back down - so I had a few books of hers in my piles I sold off. BUT i kept Envy because an American friend who loves SB swears its her best book. Guess she is right. Will give it a try.
ReplyDeleteRonlyn - whose is Unspeakable?
Linda I have never read Elizabeth Adler but I have many clients who really love her books.
I packed something like 13 books for this 6 day trip. I never know what I'll be in the mood for. LOL Good argument for a Kindle I guess, but since I rarely do trips like this...
ReplyDeleteReread Untraceable by Laura Griffin and just started Unspeakable. I'm not as far into it as you yet, Ronlyn, but it's already great! I'd recommend any of Laura Griffin's books.(By the way, my younger son has 'checked out' books for me before. Diabolical planners, unite!)
Still at my reading conference. It has been a lot of fun and hard work. Seeing some of these statistics makes me all the more amazed and inspired by my students, and a bit overwhelmed.
I've read other books since last Monday, but my mind is slow pulling that info out. Must be all the hard work I'm doing at this conference... or the reflection of the sunshine off the pool. Speaking of pools, I think I have 45 minutes before my next session. Gotta go...
Have fun in Orlando. I read Dee Davis' "Dangerous Desires" and Julia Quinn's "What Happens in London."
ReplyDelete@Jennifer-
ReplyDeletewhich of the three Erin McCarthy's did you like the best?
@Ronlyn-
how is Unspeakable so far? I have it in my TBR.
Hi Krisgils33: That's a good question. I think my favorite is still the first one (Flat Out Sexy) with Elec & Tamara - its the story that got me hooked on the series. Do you have a favorite?
ReplyDelete@Jennifer-
ReplyDeleteI was just curious as to what you thought. I just finished the second one, and I liked it, but still thought the first was really, really good. I am looking forward to the third, because the little snippets of Suz and Ryder in the first two books was interesting.
I'm really liking Unspeakable. I should have reread Untraceable first to refresh on the characters, but it didn't take me long to catch back up.
ReplyDeleteUnspeakable is Laura Griffin's newest, and to be honest I wasn't sure how I'd feel. I really liked a couple of her previous books and really disliked one as well. This one gets a thumbs up.
KK, why am I not suprised you're a diabolical library mom? LOL.
~so many books, so little time~
at least swimming starts again tonight so I know I'll get some reading time.
Christy, have a great time in Orlando. Would love to have been able to atttend -- sounds like such a fun time.
ReplyDeleteI've read "Envy" by Sandra Brown and think it's one of her very best. A little outdated but still love the characters and the storyline. Did it surprise you??
I've read Julia London's "Two Wishes" and found it an okay read. Also have read "Unspeakable" and it wasn't my favorite of Griffin's books. Reread both "Second Chance" and "Last Chance" -- because I needed them BAD!!! Also read Castillo's "Pray for Silence" which I loved, Rose's "Silent Scream" which I think is one of her best yet, and Christie Ridgway's "Crush On You" which was entertaining.
Last week was a rough one b/c Clementine "went to doggie heaven to be a special angel" per my 4 year old grandson. Yes, indeed, I'm a believer! We're all still shedding tears and remembering all the fun and wonderful time with a very special pet.
Went to the waterpark today with the grandkids and had a blast. We did a picnic lunch and met some new friends.
Hope you all have a great week and enjoy some good reads!!
Hey Kris, I'm sorry your vacation wasn't a 'vacation'. Even when I'm on vacation for real, I always come back feeling like I need another one to recover. Thanks for the recommend on Erin McCarthy. Hearing good things about her books. And I believe I read Last Gasp (if it's the one I'm thinking of) and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteHope your week is a good one!
Hey Jackie, glad to hear the recommends are working out for you. Love to hear that!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm excited to meet Kara in person. Hope some day I get to meet all of you. I would be so thrilled!
Have a great week!
Hey Hope. Hanging out with little piggies and cows sounds like fun. Despite being busy, looks like you still got some good reading in.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see if it's hotter and more humid in Orlando than it is here. Lately I can't walk out of the door without being soaked with humidity. If it's hotter, got a feeling I'm staying inside!
Have a great week!
I had to stop in real fast. It has been a crazy day. I've been trying to get my step daughter ready to go back home. I took her swimming and she got a manicure, and her dad took her to the movies. Now she is all packed and we are fixing to drive 6 hours to Denver to fly home.
ReplyDeleteThis past week I reread Unlawful contact always a fabulous read! I also read Whitney my Love and Until you. Both were good.
Hope everyone has a great week! I'll check back in tomorrow to read what everyone has recommended.
Hey Everyone! I wanted to pop in and apologize for not responding to each of you. My week went from busy, to crazy busy to insane! I'm still in the midst of the RWA convention (it's fabulous!) and won't be back home until next week. Will catch up with everyone when I get back. Promise!
ReplyDeleteHope you're all having a wonderful week and that you have some great recommendations for Monday! I've talked with several of your favorite authors and told them about Recommend Monday and invited them to pop in and say hi. Hopefully we'll here from a few of them!
Have a fabulous weekend and chat with you next week!
