It's Monday, let's Recommend a Book!

Good Monday Everyone!

Did you have a fabulous weekend? If you're in the U.S., are you off work today? How are you celebrating your Labor Day? Anyone grilling?

What books did you read last week that you're dying to recommend? Lots of new releases tomorrow...are you looking forward to any one book in particular? Here's a recommend for you. I was fortunate to read an advanced reading copy of Maya Banks, The Darkest Hour. It's the first book in a new romantic suspense series and releases tomorrow. I think you'll really enjoy it!

I'm still revising, but really hope to get these revisions done this week and get back to Honor and Seth. Especially Seth, who is looking decidedly grumpy. Although he may have heard from others of how I love to torture my characters. You know how those LCR people like to talk...Angela, are you hearing me? Well, of course, that doesn't include Dylan who is known to go days without uttering anything but the occasional growl. Grrr...

Anyway, my week is all set with my surly but wonderful Dylan and the lovely and spirited Jamie. What are you up to?

  1. Hi Christy
We're off for Labor Day too here in Canada. Watching a lot of US Open tennis.

Love hearing about your characters. They sound like a bunch of .. well.. characters LOL.

    In the middle of:
    Black Jack by Lora Leigh
    Black Magic by Cherry Adair

I put hose down to just look at The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks & WOW, couldn't put it down. Awesome characters, emotion, suspense, etc.
First of a series & the pages introducing the next one will leave you hanging.

    Have a wonderful weekend all.

  2. Good morning, Christy!
Yes, I have the day off, and plan to go see my mom and have some play time at the lake. Unfortunately, I first have to go to work and get some things done there. There never seems to be enough time in a work day to get everything accomplished (not that I'm advocating longer work days - LOL).
I read Cynthia Eden's Deadly Fear and really liked it. Right now I am reading the second book of Brenda Novak's new series, Body Heat. I have just started it, but so far it's great - one of those books that will make me forget how many things I should be doing besides reading. :) I just saw info on the new Maya Banks' series, and can't wait for that! I've got lots of books requested from the library and a few more I've ordered from the book store. It will be like Christmas day when they all come in.
BTW, I've noticed more and more of your posts include what seem to be direct quotes from Dylan ('Grrrrr'). :) Hope you have a great week.

  3. Good Morning all!
I'm off work today (YAY!) and was greeted by a very excited 6 year old this morning announcing "TOMORROW IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!" Fun times around here, labeling school supplies and all that.
Meanwhile we seem to have made great strides in potty training the 3 year old, so thinkgs are looking up.
Since I've been essentially housebound this weekend I've finished up SEP's STARS series...actually I realize there's one I haven't read for some reason, but I finished up the rest of them. Now I've got 12 other books from the library staring at me and I have no idea where to start. Several Beverly Barton, whom I've never read but has been highly reccommended here, a could Sala, a couple from Brenda Novack including White Heat. I need to decide to go for it. :-)
I'm guessing we'll be sticking close to the house again today, so we'll probably do some grilling (my famous pork chops). Hope everyone has a great Monday.

  4. Oooo, I read Cindy's DEADLY FEAR too. I had nightmares. Considering what I normally read, that tells you something.

Presently reading Anne Stuart's RECKLESS. So dark and sexy. Love her stuff.

    Love and hugs,
    Carla

  5. Happy Labor Day to all!

I am off and enjoying the day. I read Renegade by Lora Leigh. I enjoyed it...looking forward to reading her next book Live Wire.
I read Eye of the Storm by Dee Davis. I like the premise of this book. The female main character was a member of a secret military unit that had been disbanded...she meets and falls in love with main character male, they marry and are happy till eventually he realizes that he really does not know who she is....divorce papers soon are on the table...then she receives a coded postcard...
I am currently reading Eve Silver Sins of The Soul...the first book I read of hers was Sins of the Heart...I am really enjoying her books!
I am trying to hold off reading Christine Feehan Dark Peril, since I know that it will probably be quite a wait till her next Carpathian novel. LOL

  6. No Labour Day here but Wednesday its the feast of Our Lady of Victories (ref to the WWII victory), and i am partially off - have a meeting in the morning.

Not much reading getting done unforunately. I finished Jo Goodman's If His Kiss is Wicked and Erin McCarthy's Hot Finish.

I just started Sally Mackanezie's The Naked Marquis. Its my first book by her and I am really enjoying it.

  7. I love Maya Banks, thanks for the recommend on the new series. I'm off to San Fran this week, less than 24 hours home, then off to Atlanta. At least I won't miss the first day back to school, but getting into the groove will be a bit tougher with me gone.

Just got home from lunch and mini-golf with some friends. Now to get school supplies organized and then the pool for a bit.

Last week I read Nauti Deceptions by Lora Leigh, On the Steamy Side by Louisa Edwards, and All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins. All were very good.

  8. Happy Labor Day. I'm a fan of Maya's books and can't wait to pick up "The Darkest Hour." One of my favorite reads this week was "Magnus" by Jambrea Jo Jones.

  9. Didn't have much time to read last week. Did a couple off my TBR list. Stripped by Brian Freeman and Perfect Cover by Linda Chase. They were both good. I like Stride and Serena's characters in Freeman's books. Enjoying the day, Terry is going to grill. Have a great week.

  10. Hi Christy peeps! :)

It sounds looks like everyone had some really good reads last week!
My honey is off work today (he had a 3 day weekend usually he is only off on Sundays) So I've had an excellent Labor Day weekend! He even let me sleep in this morning! He's so sweet! :)

Last week I finished the Storm Series by Sharon Sala and as I expected the last one Swept Aside was my favorite of the three.
I also read How to Abduct a Highland Lord by Karen Hawkins. I really enjoyed it!
Lastly I read Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt. I really liked it!! It was the first book I've read by her an I liked her so much I went out and bought 4 more of her books. :)
Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the day and work week!
Christy good luck finishing up this week! Hopefully Dylan cooperates. I'm sure Seth isn't liking the fact he has been put on the back burner for a bit. lol

  11. Hi everyone, hope you are all enjoying your day off if you get one. I was in my husbands class room for most of the day helping to get it ready for the teen monsters to return tomorrow ;o)

I did get some reading done last week, I finished Sharon Sala's storm series and I am with Crystal, my fav was the 3rd book. I really liked her though.

I also finished White Heat by Brenda Novak. I really loved this book and I think this series is going to be great. This was my first book by her, but it didn't disappoint me.

Hot as Sin by Bella Andre, I REALLY loved this book. I have the next one too. I was unable to find the first one and the 2nd had been on my TBR pile for way to long so....it didn't seem like you had to read the first to understand this one, but would definitely recommend it.

Susan Andersen's Burning up (apparently this week I had a thing for firefighters lol). Really cute story.

Finally, I read Marie Force's Lone of Scrimmage. Not my usual reading, but it was for sure entertaining.

    Have a great week everyone.

  12. @Luci.....Sally Mackenzie is great. I have the best time reading her books and the latest one with the Viscount is a hoot!

@Carla, I had a wonderful time reading Ruthless and Reckless. They were great.

Reading Lora Leigh's "Renegade" and it so far looks to be another winner.

  13. Almost forgot. Read another REALLY good book. Jaime Rush's "Out Of The Darkness". Loved it.

  15. Oh wow, everyone, thanks for the great recommends! Looks like everyone is having good luck finding wonderful reads.

I'm hoping to take at least one day off between sending SWEET REVENGE off to my editor and getting back into SWEET JUSTICE. Just one day! So, if you had to recommend just ONE book that I should read on my only day off, what would it be?

Anyone want to take a shot at a one book recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

  18. Jaime Rush's "Out of the Darkness". The herione is a tattoo artist.

Recommend. Sally Mackenzie's "Naked Viscount" or Rachel Gibson's "Trouble with Valentine's Day". Somethin REALLY, REALLY FUN.

  19. Christy - that is a hard one, just one book. BUT my favorite that I have read lately is White Heat by Brenda Novak. Good luck with your one day, and enjoy.

  20. I agree with Hope that picking just one is a terrible thing to have to do! My two most recent favorites are All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins and On The Steamy Side by Louisa Edwards.

  21. anything by Karen Rose. ;-)

It so depends on the mood. do you need something light and fluffy? or deep and mysterious? Lots of suspense and lite on the romace? Or heavy Romance and light suspense.

  22. Hmmm, interesting question Christy...

If you wanted to read something opposite from the type of stories you have been frantically writing and re-writing...

I would go with somthing from Lora Leigh's, breed series...her 3rd book Elizabeth's Wolf---thats my favorite.

Or maybe you want something similar to what you have been working on, but with more of the profiler, forensic,CSI...

I would recommend somthing from Kylie Brant's Mindhunter series.

Or, go for a really good new paranormal series by Eve Silver; otherkin.

  23. Christy
One of my favorite historical reads lately has been Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt. Then of course the Green Eyes and Tiger Eyes by Karen Robards both of those were great also! Good luck in choosing!! :)

  24. Agreeing with Crystal -- Elizabeth Hoyt's new historical series started off with a great book in "Wicked Intentions." I am definitely putting Maya Banks's new book on my list to get today -- AM IN SERIOUS NEED OF A ROMANTIC SUSPENSE FIX!!!!

  25. Thanks everyone for the recommends. I know it's hard to recommend only one, believe me!

Ronlyn, regarding what I'm looking for. Sigh...I don't know, I just want to be carried away for a day, romantic suspense, historical, comedy... Doesn't matter, I just want to be immersed, totally and completely, in a good book. LOL Easy, right?

So, if you've got them, keep the suggestions coming. I won't make a decision until next week.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Christy - I stick by my White Heat suggestion but...I just finished Bella Andre's Trial By Fire...oh boy that was a good book. I apparently read out of sequence (I hate it when that happens) but I just couldn't put it down. ALSO, Dee Davis' A-Tac series is awesome too, I like the 3rd the best.

  27. Hope,
Have you read the newest Brenda Novak book in that series? I haven't finished it yet, but so far I really like it, and think it's even better than the first.
@Christy, Good luck with book hunting. Fortunately, I don't have to limit myself to just one. Have you read PC's Naked Edge yet? If not, you should definitely add that to your list of possibilities. I am hoping my copy of the new Kate Brady book will be in tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kara C - I haven't read the new Novak book yet. I had a deal with my husband that I wouldn't buy anymore books until I finished my TBR pile since I was up to like 28. (I actually stuck to this deal, except I HAD to buy Renegade, I can't be faulted for that lol) So I am down to 4, hopefully, I will get to go shopping in the near future. Glad to hear the series just gets better and better.

  29. Hi Christy,

How about, comedy, romance, adventure and mix of historical with present day thrown in?

You have probably already read them but...

Karen Marie Moning's Kiss of The Highlander, The Dark Highlander and The Immortal Highlander---all three must be read....and I know you will LOL that I am saying this...but they must be read in 1-2-3 order.
