Yay, Friday finally arrived! Hope you've got something fun to look forward to this weekend. I'm headed to Georgia tomorrow with my friend and fellow author Carla Swafford for a day of exploring and chatting about writing. BTW, you'll be hearing more about Carla in the coming weeks. Her debut book, Circle of Desire, is a fabulous romantic suspense about a secret organization of assassins and will be released by Avon Impulse on October 18. Carla used to be my critique partner and was the first person to read RESCUE ME. I've invited her over here to blog in a few weeks. You're going to love her!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by yesterday and named your favorite toys when you were a kid. Brought back many fond memories.
Congrats to Johanna J for winning a signed copy of Heartache Falls by Emily March. Johanna, please send your mailing info to christy@christyreece.com and I'll get the book out to you next week.
Wow, can you believe that in three days, SWEET REVENGE will finally be here? Seems like we've been waiting for Dylan and Jamie's story forever, doesn't it? I do hope you love their story. I'm already hearing that some people have it and are loving it, so yay! And don't forget the official release day party on Tuesday, October 4. Lots of prizes up for grabs.
I've got several things coming up next week to tell you about, but I'll announce them on Monday. Stay tuned though cause you'll have lots of chances to learn more about Seth and Honor from SWEET JUSTICE and Jamie and Dylan from SWEET REVENGE. I might even throw in a teaser or two for Mia and Jared in SWEET REWARD!
Now for today's SWEET giveaway. Since we're all readers and many of us loved reading when we were kids, I'm betting you had several favorite books or series when you were growing up. Mine, were Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, The Black Stallion, Heidi, Robinson Crusoe, The Call of the Wild and Greek Mythology books. Anything that sparked my imagination, I devoured.
What about you? What were your favorite children's books and stories?
Since I'm going to be gone tomorrow, I won't be able to have a day twenty-five giveaway, so I'm going to do two giveaways today and they're both SWEET!
For a chance to win a signed copy of SWEET JUSTICE or a signed copy of SWEET REVENGE, name your favorite children's books. I'll announce the winner on Sunday's blog.
Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday and Saturday! Can't wait to see what your favorite kid books were!
My favorite books as a kid were the Angus books, Angus & the Ducks, Angus & the Cat, and Angus Lost. I got older, any books that had to do with horses or dogs, White Fang, Call of the Wild, Big Red, etc. I did like Nancy Drew books as well. I would love to win a copy of Sweet Revenge!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite books growing up were the Babysitter's club series, the Black Stallion series, White Fang, and James Herriot's books...basically anything with a dog or horse in it :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book was Charlotte's Web. I can still remember my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. McKinley, reading it to us every afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Sweet Revenge!!
my favs were the babysitters club and nancy drew :)
ReplyDeleteAlison - how could I forget the Black Stallion/Island Stallion books!! I read all of those too!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Jane Austen books the best. They were so romantic and such a great escape for a girl of thirteen. Come to thik of it it they still are now and I am alot older.
ReplyDeleteI loved Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book was NESTHĂ„KCHEN by Else Ury and I have no idea if that is know outside of germany - but I doubt it. It's about a rich girl in pre-WW2 Germany ... and... THE NEVERENDING STORY by Michael Ende. And then I stopped reading for almost 20 years...only what was asked in school...but then one day I found ... I think it was Nicholas Sparks A walk to remember...and I never stopped reading since :) Have a good day. B
ReplyDeleteLoved Nancy Drew books. I think my first love was Dr. Seusse
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood books were the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Egyptian and Greek mythology and the Naughtiest Girl series (by Enid Blyton).
ReplyDeleteAs a child my favorite books were the Serendipidy books with Stephen Cosgrove. But I also read Disney and Golden books. Later I started on Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys and the Three Investigators. I still have most of those books.

I liked Amelia Bedelia, and Beverly Cleary's books, then the babysitters club just to name a few. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteNancy Drew, The Black Stallion, The Call of the Wild, The Little House Series By Laura Ingalls Wilder. That's all I can think of right now...brings back memories thats for sure.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win!
I loved Nancy Drew books. When we moved from Chickasaw to Goodsprings my books got left in the attic of the house we were renting. Never did get them back. But I also loved a series of books that was also a girls detectivie series and she had three brothers. They were Trixie Belden.
ReplyDeleteI don't need to be added to the giveaway. I just finished Sweet Revenge last night and it was Sweet. I actually liked it even better than Sweet Justice. The twist at the end was unexpected and great. Also loved the "balloon". Got a question about Mia. Read the intro and it is going to be good. My question is in your mind is it "MY a" or "ME a" Want to pronounce it the same as you and have heard it both ways. Have a great time in Atlanta, it is suppose to be really pretty here in GA tomorrow. Can't want to discover a new author.
Nancy Drew, Bobbsey Twins and my first Donna Parker in Hollywood, thebook that got me addicted to reading.
ReplyDeleteWent ahead and preorderd Circle of Desire for my nook. Sounds great.
ReplyDeleteHi all! Loving all these books being mentioned. I remember enjoying many of them.
ReplyDeleteAnother one I didn't mention that I read when I was in my early teens was The Rolling Years by Agnes Sligh Turnbull. If you've read any of my bios or interviews, you've seen me mention this book before. It was the first book I can remember reading where my emotions exploded. Probably my first angst-driven drama...but certainly not my last. (:
Anyone else read this book?
A special note to Deb! So glad to hear you enjoyed SWEET REVENGE! Had to stop and think a minute about the 'balloon' but now I remember. (: And glad you're intrigued by the SWEET REWARD excerpt in the back! In my mind, Mia is pronounced Me-a.
And yay for good weather in Georgia this weekend!
I really had no favorite books as I read everything. I was into historical romance, adventure books, and thrillers hope u have a great day tomorrow
ReplyDeleteI remember early on reading Sweet Valley High.
ReplyDeleteI used to LOVE NANCY DREW!! So fun. I remember reading those by flash light. LOL.
ReplyDeleteJudy Blume was another favorite.
And there's a book, I have NO idea of the title or author, which bums me out, but it was about a group of kids that lost their baseball in the attic window of an old spooky house. They went to retrieve the ball and found all sorts of wonderful treasures and wound up befriending the old..I want to say man, that lived there. I LOVED that book and so wish I could remember the title.
Later I graduated to Sweet Valley High...which I just heard they just released another book. Too funny.
My favorite book from childhood is Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are."
ReplyDeleteMy favorite as a kid were The babysitters club, The boxcar children and the Goosebumps books.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would have to be Black Beauty, I always loved stories about horses.
ReplyDeleteI was a Baby Sitters Club, Sweet Valley High girl. When I became more mature (like 8th grade) I started reading The Love Stories Series...all about first kisses and first relationships...I loved them and even have the collection still on my YA shelf. But the book that solidified my love of reading was The Wind Blows Backward by Mary Downing Hahn. I still reread it atleast once a year!!
ReplyDeleteNancy Drew, Wizard of Oz, Laura Inglalls.
ReplyDeleteI also liked Nancy Drew! I grew up reading and loving Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, Sweet Valley, Fear Street and The Babysitters Club. Those were great times.
ReplyDeleteHardy boys all the way. Diary of Ann Frank, Misty and then Where's Waldo and I Spy! LOL
ReplyDeletepennsdog@yahoo.com
I loved all the Dr. Seuss books, Goosebumps by R.L. Stine, Sweet Valley High by Francine Pascal, and The Babysitters Club books.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites were the Bobbsey Twins and the Adventure series by Enid Blyton. Ms. Blyton wrote the Adventure series books in the '40s and '50s, they were great books with tons of mystery in them.
ReplyDeleteRonlyn, would the book you can't remember be one by V.C. Andrews? My daughter read a series by her that had something to do with an attic and kids. I remember buying them for her when she was around 13 years old.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved to read and I would have to say my favs were the Nancy Drew series.
ReplyDeleteLoved the Amelia Bedelia stories, they always made me laugh. And I enhaled every Nancy Drew story.

My favourite was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I lost count of how many times I re-read it as a kid.
ReplyDeleteAnne, no it wasn't the VC Andrews books (although I did read those as a teen now that you mention them. Flowers in the Attic I think was the first one). The book I was thinking of was for younger kids, maybe ~10 years old. I wish I could remember more about it, but I remember LOVING it. I'm going to have to pick the brain of our librarian and see if it rings a bell with her.
ReplyDeleteSad (and embarrassed to admit) that I don't have a favorite children's book. My mother never ever read to me or my sister, although I'm sure she'll deny that. I honestly don't think I knew what a book was until I went to school. I remember being asked to read out loud and having a hard time because I didn't know how to pronounce the words. The kids were laughing at me for it too. I hated it. Once I found out what the Babysitter's Club was, I asked for those and some R.L. Stein books, but I was much older by then and wouldn't consider them my favorite books from childhood. Oh well. It's in the past and I'm making up for it now with all the books I can get my hands on. I also make sure I read to my kids every night.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Sweet Revenge and I love the colors chosen for that book!
Hi all..Hope everyone is having a great weekend. When I was a kid I was into the Trixie Belden books. I thought she was the best. Happy reading all.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christy. I had so much fun with you today, and I'm looking foward to visiting and talking with everyone on your blog on 10/25!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deb! I hope you enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteOf the childhood books I read, the ones that I remember most as favorites were "The Boxcar Children" by Gertrude Chandler Warner, which I have already started reading to my grandson.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, "Nancy Drew" mysteries. I wanted to be her!
I'm late I'm late for a very important date.... :)
ReplyDeleteI loved reading the babysitters club as well growing up. I'd read just about anything really.
Sorry I'm running so late today. It's been a wild and busy weekend, but so much fun. Thanks to all who came by and named their favorite books when they were kids. I think a few came after I grew into other books, but most of the ones you guys mentioned I remember with fondness and love.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Patty for winning a signed copy of SWEET JUSTICE and Ronlyn for winning a signed copy of SWEET REVENGE. Ladies, if you'll email your mailing address to christy@christyreece.com, I'll send the books out to you this week.
