Finally Friday!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Wow, we made it to the weekend! As you know, this week hasn't been my best ever, so I have to say I'm glad to see this one end. With each day, I'm feeling stronger. By Monday, if at all possible, I plan to be 100% better. Can't wait!

Every year, about this time, I get reflective. Thinking about the past year, the good I've done, the not so good I wish I could change and the work left to be done. I'm not one to make New Year's resolutions. I used to do this, but when I realized my resolutions only lasted until mid-February, if that long, I determined it was just best for me to make changes as I saw fit. Sometimes that worked, sometimes not. This year I realized that though I may not make any resolutions for the new year, I am going to have to make some changes. I haven't taken care of myself like I should. So I'm making not so much a resolution as a promise to myself. I will live healthier from now on. These healthful promises include, exercise, eating better, sleeping more, reading more, worrying less, and taking time off the computer to spend with my loved ones.

Next year promises to be a busy one for me. With two books coming out, plus writing another one and then hopefully more. I need to be healthy to pull all of that off.

So, that's my resolve and promise to myself. What about you?

Here are today's questions: Do you make New Year's resolutions? Or, are you like me and you're making yourself promises as opposed to resolutions? Does the end of year make you reflective? Is the beginning of a new year a time for change for you or is January 1 just a date on the calendar?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hope everyone is in the process of making their 2010 Best Reads List and will be ready to share with everyone on Recommend Monday.

Have a fabulous Friday all!

  1. I'm so glad you're doing better. I hate being sick and wouldn't wish it on my vilest villian! (ok, I might wish it on an evil dude).

I'm not very sentimental or reflective and I don't make resolutions, because I don't typically stick to that stuff.

  2. For the past couple of years and this year, I set all my energy on POSITIVE thoughts that from Oct to January 1st, my life will be drama free. And this year my wish will come true. Just like you getting an Awesome book offer, no corrections and all turn into bestsellers. :)

LOL There are a few villains I'd wish my yuckiness on, but that's about it.

  9. I don't make resolutions cause I am never really good at sticking to them, then I beat myself up for not sticking to them, a new cycle of negative begins, so I decided not to do that to myself anymore. I, like you Christy, just tend to make adjustments when necessary.

I do get kind of sentimental at the holiday season, but I don't worry about what I am missing, but more of what I have already. My family life (outside of my husband and son), isn't all that great, BUT, I have the best friends a gal can ask for and I would rather think about that then the negative.

  10. Hope, that's a great philosophy! Counting blessings is a great way to face a new year.

  11. I don't make resolutions! I tried once and never stuck to it, so why even do it?

Hope that everyone is ready for the holidays!

  12. I don't do resolutions either. Seems pointless to me. I try to always keep in mind that I should treat others the way I want to be treated -- doesn't always work, but it does most of the time :o)

Glad you are feeling better Christy! Thanks for the book today!!

  13. I love resolutions! Even if I dont stick to them, it seems to help me to start my year off with a new determination. (if that makes sense to any one) lol I guess it helps me to be more positive after the stresses of the holiday season.

Glad to hear you are feeling better! Hope every one has a fantastic weekend of catch up shopping just like me lol

  14. I'm not a big resolutions person, but I do say that I'll take better care of myself by eating right and exercising.

  15. Tanya, that's kind of been my experience with resolutions too. I'm hoping this new 'no pressure' promise to myself works better. (:

And you're very welcome for the book. Thanks for playing First Line Friday with me on Facebook!

  19. Hi Christy & ladies
I used to make the same resolution every year - lose weight & get in shape. I play tennis regularly. I'm pretty good at it, I have fun & it makes me happy even tho I'm still not thin.

I like Shelly's thought. I just try to be a decent human every day. I like the line from Reece Witherspoon's Oscar acceptance speech: "I'm just trying to matter and live a good life". That way I don't have to look at the calendar. It's a habit.

  20. Glad your feeling better! Being sick around the holidays is the worst!

I make resolutions every year...usually to lose weight, exercise more. It helps me start the year off determined, but I never end up sticking to them. I think its good to think about what you want to improve or work on during the new year.

  21. I don't make resolutions. Most of my friends set them every year. So for two weeks to a month out of the year, they come to the gym and workout with me. :)

For me it's about taking control and that is something you can't just talk the talk, you have to walk the walk.

I have two friends that have been hanging in there with me since last year. But regardless, if they stop, I will keep doing what I choose to do.

  22. Glad to hear you're almost back to 100% Christy! Hope this weekend brings you some feel good moments.

I don't make resolutions anymore - been there, done that -- never stuck with them! I just like to reflect back at the end of each year and at least be able to say "I fought the good fight, towards living a healthy life, although failures certainly abound," "I did my best to be a kind and caring person," and that I found time each day to be thankful for the blessings in my life -- the most important of which are a loving family and wonderful friends.

I get very emotional this time of year - especially as I've gotten older. Christmas carols, the holiday activities at church, gifts exchanges between old and dear friend - well it all brings me to tears these days. I also miss my mom so much at this time of year -- she was the "Santa" in our family decorating everything in sight, baking from December 1 until Christmas Eve, and always making sure there was lots of holiday spirit, fun and games.

Wishing each of you a peaceful, wonderful and loving holiday season.

  23. Not big on resolutions, and New Year's Day doesn't make me too reflective. I TRY every day to make changes as needed. Not always successful, but the key word is TRY. Today actually marks one of my most reflective days - the beginning of Christmas break, also marking the end of the first semester! Time to think about how I may need to improve things at school for the last half of the year. Also time to start thinking about SUMMER - another key word. :-)

  24. Mary, playing tennis as much as you do, I'll bet you're in fabulous shape. I so admire your dedication. Your positive outlook for each day is a wonderful philosophy. Good for you!

  25. Thank you, Allison! Almost a 100% better now. And you're right, being sick during the holidays is the pits. I especially don't want to spread it around to my family. That's one gift they definitely don't need.

Good luck on your resolutions this year!

  26. Linda, your discipline is admirable. When I belonged to gyms, I remember the influx of new people at the beginning of each year and then as each week went by, how the numbers decreased. So many people want to live healthier lives but not all have the discipline to make the necessary changes. Sounds like you are a great example to your friends and an inspiration. That's wonderful!

  27. Anne, I think reflections are healthy. And it makes sense to have them at the end of the year or the beginning of a new one. As I get older, I tend to do that more.

And sounds like we're alike on the sentimentality as we get older too. I'm much more likely to get teary-eyed over a Christmas song or watching kids in a church play than before. And don't get me started on those Maxwell House commercials where the son surprises his mom for Christmas. But tears are good and cathartic!

Christmases with your mother sounds wonderful. What beautiful memories and traditions you can share with your kids and grandkids.

Hope you have a lovely, peaceful and loving holiday too!

  28. Kara, congrats on the Christmas break! How exciting and fun. I still remember those last few hours of school on the last day before Christmas break! Oh, the anticipation!

Enjoy your time off...you definitely deserve it!

  29. Christy, you are too sweet. I may in in good shape cardio-wise but my "shape" is not good. Too much junk in the trunk & everywhere else too LOL.

  30. wow I missed out yesterday.
Christy I am glad your on the road to recovery. Yes we all need you healthy so we can continue to enjoy your fabulous LCR team.
I'm not a big New Years Resolution type person. I do really try to reflect on myself this time of year. I want to be the best mother/wife/daughter I possibly can so if I can do something to make that better I want to.
I also really try to appreciate all I have in my life. I am so blessed in more ways than I could say on here. I have family and friends serving in the military and I really try to tell them how much I appreciate them. How proud they make me for their bravery, courage and sacrifice. I spend more on sending them care packages then I do Christmas presents for my kids. I want my kids to know why and be proud too.
