Recommend Monday!

Good Monday All!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fabulously fun? Read anything deliciously wonderful?

My weekend was a little low-key. Been under the weather lately (does anyone know where that term came from? It just seems an odd phrase but I've heard it all of my life) Anyway, I'm feeling better and plan on a productive week with Jamie and Dylan, as well as an intense discussion with...you guessed it, a dastardly, vile villain!

We've been having some fabulous discussions the last few days. As you know, I announced a contest on Friday and I'm collecting comments (only 1 per day counts) until December 20. Then, I'll draw a name and give away a prize package filled with goodies, gift cards and books.

Friday, we talked about what book you would recommend to a friend who confessed she/he had never read a romance. Saturday, we discussed covers, your likes and dislikes. And yesterday, we talked about the book or books that brought you over to the romance genre and made you a fan.

Today, can you guess the question? Here's a hint: Recommend Monday! You got it! What book(s) did you read recently that you're dying to tell others about so we can run out and buy it before they're all gone? If you've not had a chance to read anything recently, tell us an old favorite. Maybe we haven't read it and are missing out on a good thing.

For me, I didn't get to read anything new this past week, but there's a book I read several years ago that I don't think has been mentioned here. It's one I really want to go back and read because I remember how fabulous I thought it was. The book is The Bride Finder by Susan Carroll. Anyone read it? I think there were three books in the series. I remember laughing, crying and being thoroughly entertained.

Okay, that's it for me. I'm headed to work on SWEET REVENGE where the sparks are a'flying!

Happy Monday All!

  1. Under the weather is a phrase that came from back in the day when sailors would get sick on long journeys. The crewman would be sent under the deck (out of the weather) till he was better. There is your fun fact for the day lol (Im obsessed with the meanings and storys behind all the phrases we use now days)

My weekend was great! (minus the part where I had to work the whole time) I finished Love Me by Bella Andrea and have taken on the first book in the bodyguard series by Cindy Gerard. Im about half way through To the Edge, and cant seem to put this one down either. Cant wait to read the recommendations today! I need more books to add to my amazon wish list. Hope every one had a great weekend!!

  2. Heather D, thank you! I love that you not only knew the origin, you explained it so well. Awesome!

Love Bella Andre's books and Cindy Gerard's too. To the Edge is one of my favorites. Enjoy!

  3. Good morning Christy. I can't believe I missed the fun on your blog yesterday!! What in the world was I doing ..thinking....thinking....thinking.. I can't even remember. lol
I will go and make my comment anyway.

Last week I read 3 books that have been recommended here. The Montana books by RC Ryan:
    Montana Legacy
    Montana Destiny
    and Montana Glory
I really enjoyed all three of them! I must say the last one was my favorite. There is just something super sexy about a man that will take a child in his heart that isn't his, but the child becomes his. I love it!! Jesse, Wyatt, and Zane are 3 cowboys that every one should visit.
I've started reading Stephanie Tylers Promises in the Dark. We'll see how it turns out. :)

I hope everyone has a great week! Christy good luck with Dylan and Jamie this week. Tell that hunky Dylan I can't wait to meet him!! :)

  4. Happy Monday All!!

I hope everyone had a good week! My birthday was Wednesday and I have the best husband ever…he got me a KINDLE!! Yea!!!!

I’m continuing with the Trouble shooters series. I just read Sam and Alyssa’s story…Gone too Far. I’m loving this series!

I picked up Susan Donovan’s latest in her dog walker series…Not That Kind of Girl. I’ve read the first two books in this series (Ain’t to Proud to Beg and The Night She Got Lucky) and I really enjoyed them.

I’ve also got some books I’ve been looking forward to reading being delivered this week as well…Jo Davis’s Ride the Fire and Maya Banks No Place to Run.

    Have a good week everyone!

  5. I just finished "Trial by Fire" by Jo Davis - it was an awesome read. Would definitely recommed it. Before that one, I read "Last Chance" which I would also recommend to anyone!!

  6. Alison,
I am so glad you are enjoying the TS series! Sam an Alyssa are at the top of my list of favorites! You will also love Maya Banks!! It was one of my favorites this year so far. :) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Good job on the hubby's part too!b

  7. Last week was a slow week for me. I read Holding Out for A Hero by HelenKay Dimon. It was pretty good, her stories are always fun. I started reading Damage Control by Amy J. Fetzer. I'm having some trouble getting into it (mostly due to outside circumstances), but since I usually love her books, I'm guessing it will be another winner! The story line sounds really intriguing.

We had a busy weekend and Sunday night was my daughter's dance company Christmas party. They had it at a golf driving range and even though the bays were heated, it was still quite cold. The kids had a great time and that's really all that matters!!!

Christy, I hope you are feeling better and that D&J are behaving. I really, really, really can't wait to meet them (in their own book)!!!

  8. Alison,
Happy Birthday and congrats on the Kindle. I hope you are enjoying the instant gratification of the one-click downloads!!!!

  9. I'm loving the instant gratification with the Kindle...this could get expensive :)

Shelley I agree Trial by Fire is awesome...the hero's name isn't very sexy, but I loved it when Kat called him Howie. LOL!

  10. I am reading a SuperRomance by Liz Talley called The Way to Texas. It's the second book in her series. I enjoyed Vegas Two Step a lot and had to follow up. I needed a light, contemporary romance and she fits the bill. Her characters are fun to keep up with and I enjoy a good small town romance.

I also enjoy your books, Christy. And recommend you all the time to my friends.

    :-)

  11. Happy Monday everyone...Happy late birthday Alison, gotta love those husbands that know us soooo well :) Enjoy your Kindle. I am glad you like the TS series, Sam is my FAV of the guys so far...I am on, I think book 10. Really great series.

I only read 2 books last week. Promises in the Dark by Stephanie Tyler. I had a hard time getting in to this one. I liked it, there was just a lot of ground work that had to be written in and it took me a while to get through it all. I also just finished One Fine Cowboy by Joanne Kennedy. This was a pretty cute book. It was only my second time reading a book by her, but I really liked it.

This is a SUPER busy week for the Frost family. This weekend is Keith's (the hubby) FFA auction, and I do a lot of the behind the scenes stuff and we have lots to accomplish in a short amount of time. It is worth it though, love those kids.

    Have a great week everyone.

  12. Christine - are those "cowboy" type books? I am ALWAYS looking for a new cowboy series.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Crystal, the RC Ryan series sounds like a great read. I haven't read a western in forever; My mom loves them. She's getting a Kindle for Christmas and I might just have to put those on there before I give it to her. Thanks!

And thanks for the good wishes on Dylan and Jamie. So far they're cooperating. Fingers crossed that continues!

  14. Alison! Happy belated birthday! Hope it was fabulous! And what a wonderful hubby to give you a Kindle. You'll love it!

Wow, lots of great reads last week and this week too. Question: Are you going to download the new books on to your Kindle or will you buy the paperback?

I'm trying to find out if others are like me. There seem to be certain books that I just have to have the paperback or hard cover on. For those who have e-readers, do you feel that way or am I the only one?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Happy Late Birthday Alison!!! Dont you just LOVE that kindle? Make sure your friends and family know you have it in time for christmas gift cards. Im beeing a very good girl with hopes of getting some kindle cards myself. ; >

I have heard the "I Team" and "Trouble Shooters" alot on here, can any one tell me who the authors are?

Hope- Good luck with the auction! I was in FFA in high school and know how crazy things get the few weeks before big shows.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Heather...I Team is Pamela Clare and the Troubleshooters is Suzanne Brockmann...another must read is A-Tac by Dee Davis

  17. Morning All! I'm doing a lot of rereads, sorting through, getting ready for the holidays since I basically "lost" tiem last month.

I recently revisited some old friends in anticipation of book club next week by rereading The Virgin River. ~sigh~ love them.

  18. This weekend my husband and I went to a Hotel for a weekend break without the girls who were at my mum. Its a treat for all of us as the girls love going to their grandmother and I just desperately needed the break as i have been super stressed lately. Was a very relaxing weekend :).

The book i'd love to recommend is Lorraine Heath's Passions of a Wicked Earl - it had a few themes that are usually no-no for me but i just love LH's style and she got me hooked right for the atart. I also loved that there was no back story we are catapulted straight into the story.

I am now reading Deanna Raybourn's Silent in the Grave. Its good.

Am especially looking forward to Maya Banks' No Place to Run and Jo Davis' Ride the Fire.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Heather thanks for reminding me about the Kindle gift cards…I’d already put Borders and Barnes and Noble gift card on my Christmas list! You should definitely check out the I-Team and Troubleshooters series. It took me a while to get with the program and start reading the Troubleshooters, but now I can’t stop!

    ReplyDelete
  20. HeatherD,
    I-team Pamela Clare. (great books!!)
Trouble Shooters Suzanne Brockmann (Awesome books!!!)

    Both authors are a must!

    ReplyDelete
  21. You guys who are newbies to the Troubleshooters should also check out the Tall, Dark, and Dangerous. They are shorter reads, but there is some crossing of characters throughout the two series. Both are quite excellent series!!!!!

  22. Christy…good question about the paperback vs. eBook, I’m not sure what I’ll do. Right now I look for older books first at UBS and if they aren’t there then I move on to B&N, Amazon, or Borders. I’m sure I’ll be downloading a lot more new books, because now I won’t have to wait for the UPS man to come.

In my dream world there is away to exchange a paperback for an eBook…like how in we could load our CD’s into iTunes. This way I could keep a paperback copy of my faves and an electronic copy of the others. I’m running out of space to stash my books and I hate to get rid of any of them:)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Christy, I have that issue currently. I'm not sure what I'll do in re: to paperback vs. ebooks. For the sake of my shelves I'm trying to get myself to purchase more ebooks. But, there are some that I simply MUST have a book book for.
I like Alison's perfect world. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  24. Alison - I didn't think Howard was a very sexy name either, but it could be because I had a boss once whose name was Howard, and while he was nice, he was kind of a dork, and I kept picturing him in my mind.

Christy - I have the nook & kindle apps on my ipod, but if I have to pay the same price for an ebook as a real book, I'll go with the real book everytime. Then if I don't like it, I can trade it in, or if I love it, a can keep it without worrying about losing it in a crash or something. It's nice to have ebooks for traveling, but I still like to hold a real book!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Another good adventure/romance series it the T-Flac guys by Cherry Adair... I haven't read any Suzanne Brockman yet, but she is on my list to check out while I wait for the next LCR book :o)

  26. Hi Christy, hi all,
last week was a slow reading week for me - lots of work and other activities that got me sidetracked . But I finished Laura Griffins "unforgivable" (loved it ) and started "make her pay" by Roxanne St.Clair, but put that one on hold and reread "rescue me" instead just to follow up on the book club discussion from last thursday.

Next on my reading list is "promises in the dark" and I am waiting for my last amazon order (my first SEP books ) to be delivered.

Allison happy birthday ! Have you already started your new kindle ?
Iam thinking about buying an e-book reader because I have ordered so many books during the last months that there is very little space left on my bookshelves and the kindle might be the solution for that problem. But I like to have real books and I am so not a computer person- I sometimes get the feeling I have just to go near a computer and it starts doing all sorts of strange things. So is the kindle easy to handle even for computer challenged persons like me?

Have a great week all !

  27. Glad your feeling better, Christy. At the moment I just can't remember any reads I want to mention. BUT yesterday I was wanting something different and fun so here it is. I don't like werewolves the thought is unappealing. But I kept seeing this intriguing line about secrets being kept from their wives and being afraid to tell. One of Lydia Dare's books in her trilogy. I grabbed it "Certain Wolfish Charm" THE FIRST BOOK OF THE SERIES (donot faint KK) and I am LOVING it! I am only half way through and raced back and bought the other 2 books! So I am in a big hurry to get off so I can go back to reading my book. :) See ya.

  28. CHRISTY!!! How did I miss these great discussions??? I'm so unhappy about that. (I know. Pouting is SO attractive...)I may have to join Crystal in a late post.
I read the new Laura Griffin book this weekend, Unforgivable. This book was special to me because I read it while it was STILL new (I'm usually so behind). This is Mia and Ric's story, which I've been waiting to read.
I guess my big news for Recommend Monday though is that I had the CHANCE today to introduce a co-worker to Karen Rose's books! It's odd to me that there is a reader out there who hasn't read her stuff, but it's so fun to be the one to make the introduction.

  29. Happy Birthday, Alison! I love my Kindle. But like Ronlyn there are some books I just have to buy the real book instead of the ebook.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Elke – So far I think the Kindle is very easy to use. I haven’t sat down to do any serious reading on it yet, but I’ve ordered one book and read a preview. Since you already order books on Amazon, you can register your Kindle and easily buy books with just a couple clicks. Very dangerous…I foresee myself spending too much $$$! You can also buy the Kindle books online at Amazon if that’s easier for you.

BTW…Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes!!

  31. I just finished Susan Andersen's "Burning Up." It was great. I love all her books.

  32. I read a couple of Dana marton book this weekend. The spy who saved Christmas and Saved by the Monarch. These were the first of her book i've read and both were awesome. Full of suspense and romance and with a great pace. I did some re reading of a couple of my favorite Julie Garwood books. The Prize and The Secret. I can recommend any of her books they're all great reads. I also can agree Crystal on the RC Ryan Montana series. RC Ryan is also Ruth Ryan Langan. If you like that series Linda lael Miller has a similar series you should check out as well.

    Happy reading.

  33. I read Deadly Promises which included stories by Cindy Gerard and Sherrilyn Kenyon, both of whom I really enjoy...both were good!

There was also a story called Unstoppable by an writer whom I had never read anything; Laura Griffin. I really enjoyed her story...I will definitely be looking for more of her books.

I am reading Stephanie Tyler's Promises in the Dark----which I am really enjoying.

The cover blurb of 3 historical books caught my eye; His Christmas Pleasure by Cathy Maxwell Passions of a Notorious Gentleman by Lorraine Heath and The Border Lord and The Lady by Bertrice Small...call me intrigued;I will have to check them out.

    Have a good week ladies!

  41. Luci, sounds like a wonderful weekend away with your hubby. Good for you!

I love Loraine Heath's books. Going to go to Amazon and download that one now. Sounds really intriguing!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Alison, I'm running out of book room too. My hubby built shelves for me and they looked so pretty for about a week. Then, I went book shopping. And then I went again. LOL He's given up.

It was hard for me at first, reading on an E-reader. Seems more difficult for me to get into the book. However, when it's really really good, I completely forget what I'm holding and get lost in the story.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Shelly, I still like holding a real book too, but there's no comparison when traveling, is there? A suitcase full of books or a Kindle. So very easy!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Elke, I've heard great things about Unforgivable. Looking forward to reading it! And thanks for rereading RESCUE ME for the book club. Such a fun discussion last week!

How exciting to be getting your first SEP books. You'll love them!

And I think the Kindle is very easy to use. I'm not a techy person and my mom is even less so. She borrowed mine for a few days while she was visiting and really enjoyed using it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey Jane, I've heard great things about Burning Up. I haven't read Susan Andersen in a long time and I don't know why. She's marvelous. Need to put her on my shopping list!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh Jackie, I love going out of my normal type read and finding treasures. Good for you! Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL Kara, don't you love introducing great authors to people who haven't read their books? It's so exciting because you know they're going on an adventure that they'll thoroughly enjoy.

Sorry you missed the discussions. We missed you too!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lisa, Dana Marton's books sound great. I've not heard of her before. Will definitely check them out! And I so agree with you on Garwood's book. My personal faves are The Bride, The Secret and Honor's Splendour. So incredibly romantic. Sigh...

  49. Linda, Deadly Promises looks wonderful. And yes, Laura Griffin is terrific. She has several back titles you should be able to find. Very talented lady!

    Enjoy your week too!

  54. Happy Birthday, Alison!

This week I read Carla Neggars, "Cold Dawn" - it's part of an ongoing series that I started forever ago (at least it seems so)!

I also read Jo DAvis's "Ride the Fire" - I had been waiting Sean and Eve's story for so long - glad to finally put that behind me.

And a new author Kieran Kramer's historical, "Dukes to the Left of Me, Princes to the Right" which I loved and would recommend to anyone who enjoys historicals and is on the lookout for a new author to try.

I'm looking forward to reading Maya Banks' "No Place to Run" this week -- the second book in her KGI series.

Ho! Ho! Ho! I'm off to get ready for the grandkid's Christmas program at church tonight. Have a great day.
